Waterfall & Nature

Just a few minutes' walk from the center of town, we find Gainfeld Waterfall natural monument. Surrounded by pleasant mixed forest, the waters of the Gainfeldbach drop some fifty meters, with the rock below having been mysteriously washed away into the shape of a bowl. For many centuries, the area flanking the waterfall has been attributed with healing powers, especially for those dealing with respiratory complaints.

A newly constructed waterfall path takes visitors up some 355 steps to the upper section of the falls, and to the Pongowe castle ruins. From there you can enjoy magnificent views across the town and out towards the Tennengebirge mountains. A relaxing walk down through the forest leads you back to the original starting point.
